UFC 218 Live | In the early hours of Sunday morning, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will look to make his first defence of 145lbs title.
The fighter tasked with the job of ending the Hawaiian’s brief reign at the summit of the featherweight division is the man he took the title from six months ago in the main event of UFC 212, Jose Aldo.
Twenty-five-year-old Holloway was due to defend his featherweight crown against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, but a facial injury to ‘The Answer’ put paid to those plans.
The co-main event of the evening features a heavyweight slugfest between veteran heavyweight Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou, a bout which will more than likely determine the No.1 contender for Stipe Miocic’s heavyweight title.UFC 218 Live
Detroit, Michigan plays host to the UFC’s penultimate pay-per-view of the year on Saturday night.
Former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo gets a chance to exact revenge on reigning champion Max Holloway in the main event after No 1 contender Frankie Edgar was forced to withdraw through injury.
Elsewhere, Alistair Overeem bids to halt heavyweight up-and-comer Francis Ngannou in his tracks whilst brawlers Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje look to climb the lightweight rankings. Here, Sportsmail takes you through the action on the main card.
Max Holloway (18-3-0) vs Jose Aldo (26-3-0)
The night’s headline act sees Max Holloway make the first defence of his 145-pound title against the very same man he won it from.
The Hawaiian finished the Brazilian with strikes in the third round of their UFC 212 showdown in June to stretch his win streak to 11 and claim gold.
However, Aldo, who reigned over the division for more than five years until he was knocked out by Conor McGregor, showed more than enough in the first two rounds to suggest the result could be different should they run it back. UFC 218 Live

Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is readying himself for a return to the octagon and all signs point toward his opponent being the winner of UFC 218’s co-main event.
And it promises to be a mouthwatering showdown with the division’s hottest prospect coming up against a true veteran of the sport.
Ngannou, unbeaten in nine, only took up mixed martial arts just over four years ago but has looked nigh-on unstoppable since arriving in the UFC.
The Predator has finished all five of his fights in the promotion and is regarded as one of, if not the, most powerful strikers in the game.
However, he has yet to come up against a truly elite opponent, that is until now.UFC 218 Live
